multiple rooms of difference
let’s make it smaller
This small garden serves as a sitting, meeting, and promenading place at the entrance to a new housing community. BAU’s response to this small garden space was anti-intuitive, let’s make the garden space smaller – but many. A sinuous wall serves to create small rooms providing some relief from the scale of the hi-rise environment. Each room will contain different vegetal and topographic content.
small on space, big on place
These multiple rooms of difference and the complexity of the wall’s scribble plan and accompanying path, gives a surprising impression of extensiveness, something traditional Chinese gardens did so well. The shredding of the wall, sometimes screened, allows a complex array of views throughout the garden.
some-things can’t be rushed
The project was designed and documented in three weeks, and built in six. The trees will be fully grown in 25 years.
