introduction
The Qingpu Zhaoxing Community Heatlh Care, Aged Care and Hospital facility services a growing population in Qingpu, just west of Shanghai. It comprises a 92 bed aged care facility and a local community hospital which includes: children’s health care, immunistion centre, emergency, infectious diseases, pharmacy on the ground floor; eye-nose-throat clinic, stomatology clinic, GP surgeries, drug addict clinics , counseling clinic, dental clinic, lung clinic, ECG, EEG, laboratory on the second floor; Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic, acupuncture, physiotherapy, orthopedics, TCM training, maternity clinic, occupational therapy room, obstetrics and gynecology on the third floor; and administration , multi-purpose hall, and catering on the fifth floor.

Situated at a T-intersection of water canals the hospital seeks water views and connections to landscape together with southern sun access for various departments, wards, and aged accommodation.

The S-shaped plan creates two semi-enclosed courts; one at ground for visitors and an elevated court for inpatients. The ground level court also includes a playground for the children, to reduce the fear of getting immunised.
Retirement dormitories face south for sun access and have balconies overlooking a small park, onto which the hospital can later expand. Community dining and social facilities are situated on the bridge between wings overlooking the longest canal view.
The landscape along the canal includes walking paths, flowering trees and seating places for the elderly to pass their time.
