a constructed and cultured topography: JINDI GREEN LAND CLUB, 2006-2008
Situated on part of Shanghai’s expanding periphery, this project provides a new residential quarter with an entertainment centre comprising indoor sports facilities, some small retail outlets, and tea-house.
Enhancing the park in which the project is sited the building takes the form of a starfish or five-fingered mound. This extends the adjacent parkland over the building’s roof providing the park with an accessible green hill. To the street edges the building’s wings rise out of the ground to define small plazas with active commercial frontages. Beneath the building mound is a large elliptical multi-function hall lit by three conical sky windows. In and around this hall all programs can be accessed and viewed simultaneously: basketball, squash, golf training, yoga, free weights, reception, pro-shop, and aerobics.
